African Swine Fever has been the most significant disease outbreak within the global swine community in recent years. This viral infection has caused devastation throughout Asia and Europe, and an outbreak in North America would have extreme consequences, both in terms of direct costs of depopulating herds, and long-term economic impacts from limitations to trade. As there is no treatment option available, prevention, including rigorous cleaning
and disinfection, is our only defense.
However, cleaning and disinfection should not be a trade-off between efficacy against pathogens and safety to the user and environment. José Ramirez, Lead Science Advisor at Virox Animal Health explains that “Even the small number of formulated products that have demonstrated efficacy against the virus through direct data are difficult to handle and suffer from less-than ideal occupational safety and environmental profiles.” When used as directed, Intervention® is non-toxic, non-irritating, and readily biodegradable. In addition, its strong cleaning capabilities, ease of application and superior surface coverage make it an excellent choice for everyday use. In the case of ASFv, Intervention® concentrate should be applied for a contact time of ten minutes at a 1:64 dilution.
